The determination of pH is an important water quality parameter used throughout industry for process control and for compliance measurement. The parameter may be continuously measured using an on-line pH meter, or by field portable or laboratory instrumentation. The pH of water is a measure of the acidity or basicity and can indicate the presence of pollution. It may also be important to neutralise pH by controlling dosing systems before discharging effluent to a local water course or trade discharge. Monitoring pH on surface water from industrial sites with large hard standing is also an important environmental control measure especially where site construction may result of ingress cementitious alkalis pollution.
The WTW IQ Sensor Net system accommodates multiple sensor inputs including the Sensolyt 700 IQ, allowing signal transmission over considerable distance. Similarly, the Chemitec 50 series is a digital platform accepting multiple sensor inputs including the competitively priced S401 DIG digital pH sensor. Temperature is also measured (for automatic temperature compensation) and can be independently output from either controller. The Nivelco Anacont pH meter is a simple two-wire system which can be used with or without a local display. A version is available for hazardous Ex installation.
